The viscosity of the lava is the internal property of the fluid which provides the resistance to the flow. This also affects the shape of the lava flow and also the mountain they erupt from. As the viscosity of the magma increase the the lava flow becomes fatter. The viscosity increases and the magma becomes viscous and hence volcano erupts and becomes more steeper.  There are various types of lava like basaltic and felsic.
