Samples of rejuvenated mitochondria are mutated (defective) in 3% of cases. Suppose 18 samples are studied, and they can be cons

idered to be independent for mutation. Determine the following probabilities. (a) No samples are mutated. (b) At most one sample is mutated. (c) More than half the samples are mutated.

Answer:

a) 0.58

b) 0.598

c) 0

Explanation:

Given -

Total sample i.e n = 18

Probability (p) = 3 % = 0.03

We will use binomial distribution theory for determining the probability of mutated sample

Let X be the number of mutated sample

a)  No samples are mutated i.e X = 0

P(X=0) = 0.03^0 * 0.97^{18}\\= 0.5779 = 0.58\\

0.58

b) At most one sample is mutated

P(X=0) = 0.58 + 0.03^1 * 0.97^{17}\\= 0.598

c) More than half the samples are mutated.

P(X = 10) + ........+ P(X = 18) = 0

A titratable group is in the active site of an enzyme and must be protonated for the enzyme to function. Assume that the group h
olya-2409 [2.1K]

Answer:

The correct option is 3. "At pH 6.5 the enyzme is 50% active"

Explanation:

For the titratable group to be protonated and cause the enzyme to be in the active state, it needs to have gained a hydrogen cation (H+). In order for that to happen, there must be enough hydrogen cations in the environment of the enzyme, and hence, an acidic pH is required in this case.

Carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and __________ are known as the major biomolecules that make up life
Free_Kalibri [48]
Nitrogen. The acronym CHON is an easy was to remember these four biomolecules that make up life. Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen and Nitrogen are essential for life as we know it. Nitrogen plays a critical role in the construction of proteins and DNA. And Nitrogen is considered essential in the overall process of photosynthesis for the production of chlorophyll in plants.
