based on visual appearance, id say Japanese anime is much closer to reality
than American cartoons. Japanese anime has an art style which is likely similar to the visual appearance of reality. American cartoons are kinda similar but the features and the art style are pretty different and some unrealistic.
Japanese anime is different from cartoons. While both are caricatures that may be animated, anime usually has visually distinct features... physical features of characters are, on the whole, closer to reality than cartoons.
