Answer:

The number is 19

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Expression "48 is 9 less than 3 times a number."

We have to find the number.

Consider the given expression "48 is 9 less than 3 times a number."

Let the number be x.

Then the expression can be  written mathematically as

48 is 9 less than 3 times number x

9 less than 3 times number x = 3x - 9

then 48 = 3x - 9

adding 9 both sides, we get,

48 + 9 = 3x

57 = 3x

divide both side by 3,

we have,

x = 19

Thus, the number is 19.

How Do You Do This ? Please show work .
snow_tiger [21]
So basically you are going to line up your equations (already done). Next, you will just add each term. So x + 3x = 4x, then 2y - 2y = 0 (we wouldn't put anything) then 7 - 3 = 4
So then we have all of our terms figured out and will have 4x = 4 then divide 4x by 4 to get x alone and then you will also divide the four that is by itself by four to equal one. So, your answer is x = 1. I hope that helps!

kicyunya [14]
A magazine is much smaller than a meter stick. Although it would be possible to measure the dimensions of the magazine using the meter stick, since there are centimeter marking on them, a ruler would be a much more appropriate tool to use because of its similarity in size to the magazine.
