Beyond abolishing slavery in the United States, the Civil war was a pivotal event in American history for a number of reasons. One major importance of the war was that the Union retained its territorial integrity and the South was not able to secede from the Union or defeat the Northern forces. Also as a result of the war the Northern States were able to assert political dominance and a degree or retribution through the reconstruction efforts.

Though frequently cited in passing as an influence on certain aspects of suburbanization, the Cold War is rarely given the serious and microscopic treatment it deserves. It is understandable why historians and urbanists would shy away from a topic as complex as the war, about which much has been written outside a suburban context. </span>
It was the "B. Plebeians" who made up the majority of the roman population and became citizen-soldiers during the time of war, since these were the "common" people as opposed to the elite.
