Step 1. Simplify 6 x 35 to 210

n = 210 + 4

Step 2. Simplify 210 + 4 to 214

n = 214

Done! :) 214 = 6 x 35 + 4

"A cable TV company wants to estimate the percentage of cable boxes in use during an evening hour. An approximation is 20 percen
Marizza181 [45]

Answer:

The company should take a sample of 148 boxes.

Step-by-step explanation:

Hello!

The cable TV company whats to know what sample size to take to estimate the proportion/percentage of cable boxes in use during an evening hour.

They estimated a "pilot" proportion of p'=0.20

And using a 90% confidence level the CI should have a margin of error of 2% (0.02).

The CI for the population proportion is made using an approximation of the standard normal distribution, and its structure is "point estimation" ± "margin of error"

[p' ± Z_{1-\alpha /2} * \sqrt{\frac{p'(1-p')}{n} }]

Where

p' is the sample proportion/point estimator of the population proportion

Z_{1-\alpha /2} * \sqrt{\frac{p'(1-p')}{n} } is the margin of error (d) of the confidence interval.

Z_{1-\alpha /2} = Z_{1-0.05} = Z_{0.95}= 1.648

So

d= Z_{1-\alpha /2} * \sqrt{\frac{p'(1-p')}{n} }

d *Z_{1-\alpha /2}= \sqrt{\frac{p'(1-p')}{n} }

(d*Z_{1-\alpha /2})^2= \frac{p'(1-p')}{n}

n*(d*Z_{1-\alpha /2})^2= p'(1-p')

n= \frac{p'(1-p')}{(d*Z_{1-\alpha /2})^2}

n= \frac{0.2(1-0.2)}{(0.02*1.648)^2}

n= 147.28 ≅ 148 boxes.

I hope it helps!

The product of two positive integers is 176. One number is 5 more than the other. Find the smaller number.
svlad2 [7]

Hello from MrBillDoesMath!

Answer:

11

Discussion:

Let "n" be the smaller number. Then

n * (n+5) = 176.

My first reaction to this problem was to factor 176 in my head. That's  176 = 16 * 11 and 16 is 5 more than 11. So that's the solution!.... Now let's solve it using the brute force approach:

n(n+5) = 176                 =>

n^2 + 5n - 176 = 0       => use the quadratic formula

n =     ( -5 +\- sqrt( 5^2 - 4(1)(-176)) )  /2

 =     ( -5 +\- sqrt( 25 +  704) )/ 2

=     ( -5 +\- sqrt (729) ) /2                            => as sqrt(729) = 27

=      (-5 +\- 27) / 2                                        =>

=      (-5 + 27)/2 or ( -5 -27)/2                      =>

=      22/2  or  -32/2                                     =>

=      11 or  -16

But -16 is not allowed as the question wants a positive value.

Thank you,

MrB

Option C: 5 x(4 x+7)(3 x+2) is the possible expressions for length, width and height of the prism.

Explanation:

The volume of the rectangular prism is 60 x^{3}+145 x^{2}+70 x

To determine the length, width and height of the rectangular prism, let us factor the expression.

Thus, factoring 5x from the expression, we have,

5 x\left(12 x^{2}+29 x+14\right)

Let us break the expression 12 x^{2}+29 x+14 into two groups, we get,

5x[\left(12 x^{2}+8 x\right)+(21 x+14)]

Factoring 4x from the term 12 x^{2}+8 x , we get,

5x[4 x(3 x+2)+(21x+14)]

Similarly, factoring 7x from the term 21 x+14 , we get,

5x[4 x(3 x+2)+7(3x+2)]

Now, let us factor out 3x+2, we get,

5 x(4 x+7)(3 x+2)

Hence, the possible expressions for length, width and height of the prism is 5 x(4 x+7)(3 x+2)

Therefore, Option C is the correct answer.
