Suppose a 65 kg person stands at the edge of a 6.5 m diameter merry-go-round turntable that is mounted on frictionless bearings

and has a moment of inertia of 1850 kg m2. The turntable is at rest initially, but when the person begins running at a speed of 3.8 m/s (with respect to the turntable) around its edge, the turntable begins to rotate in the opposite direction. Calculate the angular velocity of the turntable.

Answer:0.316 rad/s

Explanation:

Given

mass of Person m=65 kg

velocity of person v=3.8 m/s

diameter of turntable d=6.5 m

moment of Inertia of the table I_0=1850 kg-m^2

Moment of inertia of Person I

I=mr^2=65\times (\frac{6.5}{2})^2

I=686.56 kg-m^2

initial angular velocity \omega _1=\frac{v}{r}

\omega _1=\frac{3.8}{3.25}=1.17 rad/s

Conserving Angular momentum

I\omega _1=(I+I_0)\omega _2 , where \omega _2=final\ angular\ velocity

686.56\times 1.17=(686.56+1850)\times \omega _2

\omega _2=\frac{686.56}{2536.56}\times 1.17

\omega _2=0.316 rad/s

Which has more momentum, a 2.0 kg dog at 41 m/s or a 75 kg pony at 1.0 m/s?
Nesterboy [21]

Answer:

The dog has more momentum than the pony.

Explanation:

To solve this problem, we must remember the formula for calculating momentum, which is given below:

momentum = p = m*v

where m represents the mass of the object and v represents the velocity of the object

Using this knowledge, let's calculate the momentum for the dog and the pony.

Dog: p = m*v = (2kg)*(41 m/s) = 82 kg*m/s

Pony: p = m*v = (75kg)*(1 m/s) = 75 kg*m/s

Since 82 > 75, we can conclude that the dog has more momentum.

Hope this helps!

Two astronauts are working on the lunar surface to install a new telescope. The acceleration due to gravity on the moon is only
nydimaria [60]

Answer:

Its velocity and acceleration are both nonzero.

Explanation:

The path of the wrench is trajectory while the acceleration due to Moon's gravity is acting on it.

As the velocity follows the path, as soon as it reaches maximum height, the vertical component of velocity is zero but the horizontal component is still there, constant.

When determining the net force given a force of 12 N and a force of 7 N, what would these forces be called?
Rus_ich [418]

Answer:Resultant force

Explanation:

The net given force is known as the resultant force. The resultant force is the single force that acts in place of other forces combined together.
