In the spirit of Douglass’ talent and passion for delivering speeches, write an antislavery speech

that would have been delivered in 1860. Your speech must include the information from the text

as an example of the cruelty of slavery and as proof as to why slavery should be ended.

In the spirit of Douglass’ talent and passion for writing, write an editorial (a piece of writing

intended to promote an opinion or perspective) from the year 1860. Your editorial must include

the information from the text as an example of the cruelty of slavery and as proof as to why

slavery should be ended.

A lot of people believed or were forced to believe slaves were the lowest class and slavery was natural and good for them. They were believed to not be capable of being a part of society. Because they were not believed to be capable, they were not taught to read or write. They were basically believed to be lower than animals, so in most cases, they were treated like or worse than animals.

Because Ham looked on his father Abraham's naked body, he was forced to be a slave to his brothers. He was also cursed. God said that him and all of his descendants would have a hard life and be enslaved. People were often named for physical and/or emotional qualities then. Since Ham means 'dark' or 'black', I guess you could say that God cursed black people. (that comes out really straightforward and a bit angry, but i couldn't find another way to put it.)

Capulet: What noise is this? Give me my long sword!
konstantin123 [22]
To provide comic relief is the correct choice. In these lines, what is basically happening is that old men are just itching to fight one another. Lady Capulet is the only one who seemingly acknowledges the fact that both of the heads of the houses are too old to fight with swords, and jokingly points out that "a sword? what you need is a crutch."

If you have read the entire play, this does not foreshadow the terrible tragedy of the fall of Romeo and Juliet. This is about Capulet and Montague, and neither end up dying or fighting each other with swords by the end of the play. This also does not tell you anything about the setting of the story, and from these lines, I would not even realize that they were simply at a party. This also does not help build much suspense, even though this looks like an acceptable answer because it is not building up to anything. Lady Capulet immediately shoots down his idea to fight Montague with his sword, and they never end up physically fighting later on.

Makes the reader wonder what "doesn't love a wall."

Answer: Option 1.

Explanation:

This line has been taken from the poem "Mending wall". In the line The fact that the speaker does not specify what, precisely, is the "Something" that "sends the frozen-ground-swell" under the fence could mean that the word something refers to nature, as another educator suggested, or even God. The word "sends" in line two implies that the sender has a will, a conscious purpose, so it seems logical to consider the possibility we should attribute such a sending to a higher being.

Further, in the lines which follow the first two, this "Something" also "spills" the big rocks from the top of the fence out into the sun and "makes gaps" in the fence where two grown men can walk through, side by side (lines 3, 4). These verbs are also active, like "sends," and imply reason and purpose to the one who performs the actions. Therefore, it is plausible that the "Something" which sends "the frozen-ground-swell"—freezing the water in the ground so that the ground literally swells and bursts the fence with the movement—"spills boulders," and "makes gaps" refers to God.
