The fertile soils and the abundant waters of the Great Lakes region make it ideal for agriculture. Development and intensificati

on of the region’s farmland has altered how water interacts with the landscape. Artificial drainage for agriculture has changed the way water flows over the land, washing sediments into rivers and lakes. Nutrients applied to fertilize crops but that go unutilized drain into tributaries that feed the Great Lakes, causing undesirable impacts such as algal blooms. Changes to the landscape like increased sediment and nutrient runoff into Great Lakes waterways threaten local plant, fish and wildlife habitats.

ladessa [460]

Answer:

Conspicuous consumption

Explanation:

Conspicuous consumption is a term used to describe expenditures on goods and services purchased primarily for the purpose of showing wealth. In the mind of the conspicuous consumer, such display serves as a means of having or maintaining social status before a social group, which socially determines objects and goods, such as a classification of higher or lower status. An example of this can be seen in the question above, where the girl bought a very expensive purse just to show that she possessed something luxurious and give an impression of wealth.

faltersainse [42]

Answer:

d. internalization

Explanation:

Carmen is describing internalization. Internalization in sociology is the acceptance of a set of norms and values established by a set of people. In the statement Carmen is explaining how there were different types of groups in her High School. These groups were set by the students. She describes that these groups were simple to spot because of their appearance and that “people should already know where to go”. This is an example of a pre-conception concept, that if you didn’t match to any of the groups then you shouldn’t be with them. In some way the people of the school already internalized this “norms” and followed them.

Len [333]

Answer:

B) athletes

Explanation:

Considering the lifestyles of athletes, we can assume that associating with them should reduce the risk of victimization. Athletes tend to work out during the day or the afternoons and tend to rest at night. They also smoke less and consume less alcohol and other types of drugs.

The lifestyle theory of victimology states that the chances of an individual suffering from a crime depend heavily on their own lifestyle. For example, most crimes happen at night, so people who like to hang out at night are more likely to suffer some type of victimization.

This theory also states that the percentage of criminals is very small (compared to society as a whole) and their crimes are unevenly distributed. This creates places with high risk of criminal occurrence. The lifestyle of individuals can determine the likelihood of being a victim or being a criminal specially through exposure to certain situations.

The Protestant Reformation established the Roman Catholic Church as the head church of Europe.
laila [671]

True

Reformation, in general, consisted of a set of measures taken by the Catholic Church with the rise of Protestant religions. Far from promoting structural changes in the doctrines and practices of Catholicism, Reformation established a set of measures that acted in two ways: acting against other religious denominations and promoting means of expansion of the Catholic faith.

One of the main measures taken was the creation of the Society of Jesus. Designated as an arm of the Church, Jesuits were to expand Catholicism around the world. With a rigid hierarchical structure, the Jesuits were primarily responsible for the process of catechizing the populations of the American and Asian continents. Using a system of regular religious celebrations and routines, the Society of Jesus managed to convert a large number of people into European colonial territories.
