There are several main perspectives that have guided lifespan development research, the evolutionary, psychodinamic, cognitive, humanistic perspective, among others. Each one of these perspectives provides a different theoretical frame to study patterns of growth, change and stability during life. Many development researchers have started using an eclectic approach, drawing on several of these perspectives simultaneously, recognizing that each one of them contributes to the comprehension of a developmental phenomenon, and neither of these offers the only truth.
