Answer:

D) Gwendolyn Brooks, a shy woman who did not stand out in the crowd, was a well-known American poet.

Explanation:

This is the original sentence:

Gwendolyn Brooks was shy, and she did not stand out in a crowd, yet she was a well-known American poet.

This is A, revision one:

Brooks was a well-known American poet. She was very shy.

This is not a good edit, because it would cut of the fact that she didn´t stand out. The part about not standing out is necessary to fully empathize the author´s point.

This is B, revision two:

Gwendolyn was a shy person who did not stand out in a crowd.

This edit completely cuts out the fact that she was a well known poet, therefore, it cannot be the correct answer.

This is C, revision 3:

Gwendolyn Brooks is one of my favorite American poets. She was shy as a young girl.

While it says she was a poet, it takes away the meaning from the original sentence. It cannot be used.

This is D, revision 4, and our correct answer:

Gwendolyn Brooks, a shy woman who did not stand out in the crowd, was a well-known American poet.

This edit keeps the meaning of the original sentence, however, it allows the sentence to flow smoother.

ASSIGNMENT - 202
Tanya [424]

Answer:

Hello Karl!

I hope you are doing well. I am happy since I took part in my school's annual talent show and it was great. Let me tell you about it.

You know how I love playing my guitar, well I decided to play We will rock you by Queen with it because it is my favorite song. But to make it more interesting, I played the harmonica simultaneously with my guitar.

I knew that playing two instruments at the same time wouldn't be easy so, for two months, I practiced every day. The hardest part was the harmonica since I didn't have much experience with it.

When the day came, I remember that they called my name. I put my feet on the stage and played the song. As soon as the audience heard the song, they started to clap and sing along.  I won the competition. The experience taught me that I could get what I want by working hard and do things with passion.

Tell me if you had had any similar experience.

See you!

Molino.

Explanation:

When we write a letter to a friend, we use an informal style throughout the letter.

The letter should have an introduction, where we tell our friend why we are writing, a body, where we develop the topic in detail, and lastly, we make a closing sentence, say our goodbyes, and sign the letter.

In the body, we have three paragraphs, one for every aspect that we want to describe. In the first paragraph, we tell our friend what we performed in the talent show, explaining why we choose to play that song. In the second paragraph, we describe our preparation. We said how long we practice, our biggest problems, and the frequency of our practice. In the third paragraph, we describe the talent show. That is to say, how we perceived the experience, how the audience reacted, and what we learned from that talent show.

"The depletion of water resources is a worrisome trend that impacts much of the world," insisted Dr. Sutton.

As far as I can tell, the only mistake is the end of the quote, where the comma should be within the quotation marks.

I’m not sure what your answer choices are but, Basically, a typical Hemingway novel or short story is written in simple, direct, unadorned prose. Possibly, the style developed because of his early journalistic training. ... An excellent example of Hemingway's style is found in "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place

What does Noda Means when she says my mother is neither white nor black? How does this statement connect to Noda's larger point
Lesechka [4]

Noda is a Japanese-American. Therefore, she does not fall into neither white, nor black category. Her comprehension is affected by society's stereotypes of people. The confusion that Noda faces is about her definition of identity. She has left between the choice of society, such as media and people and her own understanding of Japanese identity in which how wrongfully it has been depicted in media.
