Progressives--the Progressives pushed for reform in many areas. The quality of food and access to drugs became the focus of Progressive Republican Teddy Roosevelt.

The Progressives included a group called 'muckrakers' who wrote and exposed the ills of the industrial process. The book, The Jungle, highlighted the conditions of meatpacking plants and inspired the government to address the issue. The FDA was created to regulate and clean up the food industry.
