Complete the passage about metallic bonding.

Chemistry
1 answer:
Degger [83]4 years ago

In metallic bonding, valence electrons of metals move freely between neighbouring atoms. metals are ductile

because the forces that hold their atoms together are weak.

Explanation:

  • Metallic bonds are the force which holds atoms together in a metal.
  • Valence electrons present in the metals are freely moving between the other neighbouring atoms. The interaction between the positive ions which electrons leave behind and the valence electrons give the binding force which able to hold the metallic crystal together as it is.
  • In metals, the electrons are free to travel from one metal to another metal. This speciality is the reason for their electric conductivity. And this shows that the metal-metal bond is weak in metal.

The yearly amounts of carbon emissions from cars in Belgium are normally distributed with a mean of 13.9 gigagrams per year and
zavuch27 [327]

Answer:

The correct option is;

c. 0.167

Explanation:

The parameters given are;

The mean, μ = 13.9 Gigagrams/year

The standard deviation, σ = 5.8 Gigagrams/year

The z-score formula is given as follows;

z = \dfrac{x - \mu }{\sigma }

Where:

x = Observed score = 11.5 Gigagrams/year

We have;

z = \dfrac{11.5 - 13.9 }{5.8 } =  \dfrac{-2.4 }{5.8 } = 0.4138

From the z-score table relations/computation, the probability (p-value) = 0.6605

Where:

x = Observed score = 14 Gigagrams/year

We have;

z = \dfrac{14- 13.9 }{5.8 } =  \dfrac{0.1}{5.8 } = 0.01724

From the z-score table relations/computation, the probability (p-value) = 0.4931

Therefore, the probability, p_{ca}, that the amount of carbon emissions from cars in Belgium for a randomly selected year are between 15.5 Gigagrams/year and 14 Gigagrams/year = The area under the normal curve bounded by the p-values for the two amounts of carbon emission

Which gives;

p_{ca} = 0.6605 - 0.4931 = 0.1674 ≈ 0.167

Therefore, the correct option is c. 0.167.

What is the oh- in a solution with a poh of 5.71
Rudik [331]

Answer:- The hydroxide ion concentration of the solution is 1.95*10^-^6 .

Solution:- The formula used to calculate pOH from hydroxide ion is:

pOH=-log[OH^-]

When pOH is given and we are asked to calculate hydroxide ion concentration then we multiply both sides by negative sign and take antilog and what we get on doing this is:

[OH^-]=10^-^p^O^H

pOH is given as 5.71 and we are asked to calculate hydrogen ion concentration. Let's plug in the given value in the formula:

[OH^-]=10^-^5^.^7^1

[OH^-] = 0.00000195 or 1.95*10^-^6

So, the hydroxide ion concentration of the solution is 1.95*10^-^6 .

How does eating contribute to the flow of energy in a ecosystem
Neporo4naja [7]

Answer:

Eating contributes to the flow of an ecosystem because in a food web/chain, there is always a consumer. Starting from the very bottom of the food web/chain, all organisms eat to pass on the energy to the next cosumer. For example, a grasshopper eats some grass. That grass is made into energy. Then, a possum eats that grasshopper, the energy from the grasshopper converting to the energy of the possum. Then a giant snake comes along and eats the possum. The energy keeps flowing up and up the food chain as animals consume(and be consumed).
