Four times a number added to 3 times a larger number is 31. Seven subtracted from the larger number is equal to twice the smalle

r number. Let x represent the smaller number and y represent the larger number. Which equations represent this situation? y = negative four-thirds x + 31. y = 2 x + 7. y = negative four-thirds x + StartFraction 31 Over 3 EndFraction. Y = 2 x + 7. y = negative four-thirds x + 31. y = negative 2 x + 7. y = negative four-thirds x + StartFraction 31 Over 3 EndFraction. Y = negative 2 x + 7.

Answer:

Let x represent the smaller number and y represent the larger number

For the first equation

Four times a number added to 3 times a larger number is 31 is written as

4x + 3y = 31

Making y the subject we have

3y = - 4x + 31

Divide both sides by 3

That's

y = - \frac{4}{3} x + \frac{31}{3}

For the second equation

Seven subtracted from the larger number is equal to twice the smaller number is written as

y - 7 = 2x

Making y the subject

We have

y = 2x + 7

Hope this helps you

If a ∝ b and a = 18 when b = 3, then find a when b = 5.
Elden [556K]

"a ∝ b" means "a is proportional to b", which in turn means there is some constant k such that

a = kb

We're given that a = 18 and b = 3, so that

18 = 3k ⇒ k = 6

Then when b = 5, we would have

a = 6 × 5 = 30

Peter takes an 8-inch by 3-inch sheet of paper and cuts from one corner of the paper to the diagonally opposite corner. now pete
tekilochka [14]
First get the length of the side the was cut (Hypotenuse).

We can use Pythagorean theorem: a^2+b^2 = c^2
a = 8, b = 3 = 1.5, c = ?

plug into forumla

8^2 + 3^2 = 73

a=8,
b=1.5,
c = sqrt( 73) or 8.5

Now add all sides together to get perimeter...
8+3+8.5 = 19.5

The perimeter of each sheet is 19.5in.

Haley has enlarged a 3-inch by 5-inch picture so that both the length and width are tripled. The area of the enlarged photo is h
77julia77 [94]

Answer:

9 times

Step-by-step explanation:

Area = length x breadth

area of picture not enlarged = 3 x 5 = 15in²

If length is tripled it becomes , 3 x 3 = 9in

If width is tripled, it becomes , 5 x 3 = 15in

Area of enlarged picture = 9in x 15in = 135in²

amount by which enlarged image is larger = 135in² /15in² = 9
