Let 's x the width of the sidewalk.

Area of the swimming pool= 10*16=160 (ft²)
Area of the sideway+the swimming pool= (16+2x)*(10+2x) =160+155

==>160+20x+32x+4x²=160+155
==>4x²+52x-155=0
Δ=52²+4*4*155=5184=72²
==>x=(-52+72)/2=5/2 or x=a negative to exclude.

Width of the sideway=5/2 ft

Square Root
Oxana [17]

Answer:

1).(x+\frac{1}{4})^{2}=\frac{4}{9}

2).x+\frac{1}{4}=\pm \frac{2}{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

Here the given equation is x^{2}+\frac{1}{2}x+\frac{1}{16}=\frac{4}{9}

We have to factor the perfect square trinomial on the left side of the equation

So left side of the equation is x^{2}+\frac{1}{2}x+\frac{1}{16}

= x^{2}+2\times \frac{1}{4}x+(\frac{1}{4})^{2}

=(x+\frac{1}{4})^{2}    since [(a+b)²= a²+b²+2ab]

Therefore the factorial form of the equation will be

(x+\frac{1}{4})^{2}=\frac{4}{9}

Now we have to solve the equation by applying square root property

\sqrt{(x+\frac{1}{4})^{2}}=\sqrt{\frac{4}{9}}

x+\frac{1}{4}=\pm \frac{2}{3}

The population density is approximately 4 people per square mile

<h3>Calculating Population Density </h3>

From the question, we are to determine the population density

Population density is given by the formula,

Population\ density = \frac{Number\ of\ people}{Land\ area}

Number of people in the town = 12620 people

Now, we will determine the land area of the town

From the given shape,

Land area of the town = (60 × 65) - (25 ×40)

Land area of the town = 3900 - 1000

Land area of the town = 2900 square mile

∴ Population density = \frac{12620}{2900}

Population density = 4.3517

Population density ≅ 4 people per square mile

Hence, the population density is approximately 4 people per square mile
