Answer:

The correct answer should be B: Adding sufficient heat would harm or kill a living thing.

Enzymes are the bio-catalysts which are used to increases the rate of biochemical reactions taking place in our body.

They increase the rate of a reaction by decreasing the activation energy. They do so by forming enzyme-substrate complex.

Our body does not use heat as a source of activation energy because:

 1. The system has to give larger amount of heat as compared to uncatalyzed reaction. It increases the energy utilization of the body.
 2. As the reactions are taking place in-vivo, the heat may harm or kill the living cells.
 3. It also may alter the structure of biomolecules such as DNA, RNA, proteins, and even substrate itself.
 4. In addition, heat is not specific as an enzyme is. It may alter more than one reaction at a time.
 5. Enzymes are not consumed in the reaction and hence they can be used again and again but heat has to be supplied every time a reaction takes place.

Explain why the amount of rainfall a region receives is a better determination of whether it is a desert than temperature.
Gnoma [55]
As there are many kinds of deserts, some hot, some cold even arid deserts are the classic hot deserts, but there are also cold and coastal deserts where temperatures do not get so high. The element common to all of these types of deserts, however, is their lack of rainfall. In that sense the rainfall is a characteristic that determines if it's a desert.

How are long term and short term environmental changes similar? and how are they different?
netineya [11]

Answer:

Explanation:

Environmental changes occurs from time to time, we have the short term changes that do not last for a very long time and the long term changes that last for a while. Accumulate of short term changes can extend to long term as some of the long term effects are as a results of short term changes in the environment.

Short term environment changes can be favourable to some organism and adversely affect others. Raining season causes increase in growth and development of most plant species but a long period of drought and dryness makes its hard for some plant to strive while some plants can strive well in long period of drought. This makes the two changes different, the both have individual effects on plants response.
