The question is not complete and this is the complete question;

"A spring of negligible mass has a force constant k = 1500 N/m. You place the spring vertically with one end on the floor. You then drop a book of mass 1.20 kg onto it from a height of 0.900 m above the top of the spring. Find the maximum distance the spring will be compressed. Take the free fall acceleration to be 9.80 m/s².

Answer:

Maximum distance = 12.69cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Using the Law of Conservation of Energy and knowing that the energy of the book that transfers to the spring is the change in the gravitational potential energy of the book, we can say:

PEspring (initial) + PEgravitational (initial) = PE spring(final) + PE gravitational(final)

From the question, we can see that, Initially the spring is uncompressed and so PE spring(initial) = 0J.

Thus, we get:

PE spring(final) = PE gravitational(initial) − PE gravitational(final)

Since, PE spring(final) is the final potential energy that is stored in the spring after dropping the book on it, then, PE gravitational(initial)

is the initial gravitational energy of the book at the height ℎ, while PE gravitational(final) is the final gravitational energy of the book when the spring is compressed by the maximum distance ∆.

Hence, we can write that;

(k/2)(∆x)² = mgh − mg(−∆x)

So,

(k/2)(∆x)² - mg(∆x) - mgh= 0

So, k = 1500; m=1.2kg; g=9.8m/s²; h=0.9m

Thus,

(1500/2)(∆x)² - (1.2x9.8)(∆x) - (1.2 x 9.81 x 0.9) = 0

750(∆x)² - 11.76(∆x) - 10.584 = 0

So this is now a quadratic equation, thus;

Using quadratic formula: x = - b

(∆x) = -b ± √[(b²— 4ac)/2a]

So, (∆x) = -(-11.76) + √[(11.76²— 4(750)(-10.584))/(2x750)]

Or (∆x) = -(-11.76) - √[(11.76²— 4(750)(-10.584))/(2x750)]

Solving for the roots, we have;

(∆x) = - 0.1112 or 0.1269

The maximum distance can’t be negative, so the correct answer will be the positive one.

So (∆x) = 0.1269m or 12.69cm

Answer:

a. Yes

b. 3x+7

c. 105 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

a. a(1)+b=10

   a(2)+b=13

when you solve this by elimination or simultaneously: a=3 and b=7

∴ f(x)=3x+7

b. f(x)=3x+7

c. 3(35)+7=112 cm

Romashka [77]

9.42 Units

Step-by-step explanation:

Since the angle shown is 90 degrees we can deduce that the rest of the arc is 270 degrees therefore we can make the fraction:

270/360; 360 being the total angle measurement of a circle

270/360 simplifies to 3/4

The fraction represents how much of the circle that arc covers

Now we have to find the circumference which would be

2(3.14)r

r = 2 therefore: 2(3.14)2 = 12.56

Now that we have the circumference of the WHOLE circle we multiply it by 3/4 to find out the arc length

Which gives us  9.42

Emily needs to hire a pilot. Pilot A is offering his services for an initial $32 in addition to $22.18 per hour.
Verizon [17]

Answer:

After working for 3. 74 hours, BOTH pilots will charge same amount.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us assume in m hours, BOTH PILOT charge the same amount of money.

About PILOT A:

The fixed rate  = $32

The rate per hour =  $22.18

So, if the pilot A works  for m hours, then :

Charge for m hours = m x (charge per hour)  = m x ($22.18)  = 22.18 m

So, the Total cost for hiring Pilot A  = Fixed charge  +  Cost for m hour

Total cost for hiring Pilot A   = $32 + 22.18 m   .......... (1)

About PILOT B:

The fixed rate  =$46.75

The rate per hour =   $18.24

So, if the pilot B works  for m hours, then :

Charge for m hours = m x (charge per hour)  = m x ($18.24)  = 18.24 m

So, the Total cost for hiring Pilot B  = Fixed charge  +  Cost for m hour

Total cost for hiring Pilot B   = $46.75 + 18.24 m   .......... (2)

Now,as for m hours, they charge the SAME:

⇒ From (1) and (2)

$32 + 22.18 m = $46.75 + 18.24 m

or, 3.94 m = 14.75

or m = 14.75/3.94  =  3.74

or, m = 3.74 hours

Hence,  after working for 3. 74 hours, BOTH pilots will charge same amount.
