Smoking is the most common cause of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Nicotine consumption in the arteries lead to atherosclerosis which is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Another adverse effect of smoking is Chronic Obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which is an irreversible respiratory disease and is directly associated with increased mortality percentages in the United States. Heart diseases account to approximately 635,260 deaths per year, whereas, COPD accounts to 154,596 deaths per year in the United States.
