Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" was written with the purpose of convincing colonists succession from Britain was best for the colonies. Where is common sense to separate themselves from Britain, he would never claim "(t)he British monarch should be respected as a matter of common sense. "

I would agree that the main reason was that we wanted to protect a country from communism. I often wonder though if the Vietnam conflict was not more of a conflict between USSR and the United States than it was a conflict between North and South Vietnam.
