The Hawaiian Islands were formed by volcanic activity. As is known, tectonic plates in the outer crust of our planet move, and sometimes volcanoes form in the places where these plates meet. Sometimes volcanoes form right in the middle of a plate. Then magma erupts on the seafloor; the place of eruption is called a “hot spot.”
The Hawaiian Islands were formed by these hot spots appearing in the middle of the Pacific Plate.
