ANSWER

x=1.39 to the nearest hundredth.

EXPLANATION

We have the equation,

0=2x^2+3x-8

Which can be rewritten as

2x^2+3x-8=0

The question demands the use of the quadratic formula.

Comparing this to the general quadratic equation;

ax^2+bx+c=0

a=2,b=3,c=-8

The quadratic formula is given by;

x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

We now substitute all the values in to the formula;

x=\frac{-3\pm\sqrt{(3)^2-4(2)(-8)}}{2(2)}

We simplify to obtain;

x=\frac{-3\pm\sqrt{9+64}}{4}

x=\frac{-3\pm\sqrt{73}}{4}

We now split the plus or minus sign to obtain;

x=\frac{-3-\sqrt{73}}{4}

This implies that;

x=-2.89

Or

x=\frac{-3+\sqrt{73}}{4}

This will evaluate to;

x=1.39

Hence, the positive solution rounded to the nearest hundredth is

x \approx 1.39

The answer is x = 1.39 or -2.89.

Explanation:

The quadratic formula is  x = -b+/-√(b²-4ac)/2a.

Although I usually use other methods to solve quadratics, I can use the quadratic formula.

First, you have to know the different parts of a quadratic:  ax² + bx + c = 0.  Since your equation is 2x² + 3x - 8 = 0, we know that:

a = 2
b = 3
c = -8

Now, all we need to do is plug these values into the quadratic formula and solve.

x = -3+/-√(3²-4·2·(-8))/2·2.

Next, we can simplify this to x = -3+/-√(73)/4.

Normally, I would leave the answer as this, because √73 is an irrational number, and this is in simplest radical form, but the question instructs us to round to the nearest hundredth, indicating that further work is necessary.

We need to square root 73, which is approximately 8.54.  You should now have  x = (-3+/-8.54)/4.

From here, we need to calculate the answer when it is positive 8.54 and when it is negative 8.54.

x = (-3+8.54)/4 ⇒ x = 5.54/4 ⇒ x = 1.385 ⇒ x = 1.39  (because it says to round to the hundredths)

x = (-3-8.54)/4 ⇒ x = -11.54/4 ⇒ x = -2.885 ⇒ x = -2.89

x = 1.39 or -2.89

QUESTION 63 Which set of data best represents this histogram? a histogram with 4 bars, the bar labeled 0-9 has a height of 5, th
MAXImum [283]

Question 63:

We have to identify a set of data best which represents a histogram with 4 bars, the bar labeled 0-9 has a height of 5, the bar labeled 10-19 has a height of 3, the bar labeled 20-29 has a height of 6, the bar labeled 30-39 has a height of 4.

Let us observe the four data sets:

1. In the first data set, there are 9 values in the interval 0 to 9 instead of 5 values. This set does'not represents the given histogram.

2. In the second data set, there are 4 values in the interval 20 to 29 instead of 6 values. This set does'not represents the given histogram.

3. In the third data set, there are 6 values in the interval 0 to 9 instead of 5 values. This set does'not represents the given histogram.

4. In the fourth data set, there are 5 values in the interval 0 to 9, 3 values in the interval 10 to 19, 6 values in the interval 20 to 29, 4 values in the interval 30 to 39. Therefore, this data represents the given histogram.

Option 4 is the correct answer.

Question 64:

We have to find the lower quartile (Q1), median (Q2) and upper quartile (Q3).

{20, 22, 22, 24, 26, 28, 29, 32, 33, 35}

Firstly, we will arrange the numbers in ascending order.

{20,22,22,24,26,28,29,32,33,35}

Since there are total 10 terms. There are even terms.

So, median = Mean of (\frac{n}{2}) and (\frac{n}{2})+1 th observation

As, \frac{n}{2}=\frac{10}{2}=5

So, Median =mean of 5th and 6th observation.

Mean = sum of all the observations divided by the total number of observations.

Mean = \frac{26+28}{2}

Median = 27.

SO, the median (Q2) is 27.

Now to calculate Q1(Iower quartile),

Consider the data set {20,22,22,24,26}

Q1 is calculated by taking the middle term of first half data set, which is 22.

Now to calculate Q2(upper quartile),

Consider the data set {28,29,32,33,35}

Q3 is calculated by taking the middle term of second half data set, which is 32.

Question:

Consider the given matrix:

\left[\begin{array}{ccc}2&1\\0&5\\3&4\end{array}\right]

We need to find the dimension of the matrix.

A matrix "m \times n" mean it is a matrix with 'm' rows and 'n' columns.

Since, in this matrix there are 3 rows and 2 columns.

So, the dimension of the matrix is 3 \times 2.

So, option C is the correct answer.

What is the unfilled volume inside the cylinder?
MrMuchimi

Question:

A solid oblique cone with a slant length of 17 units is placed inside an empty cylinder with a congruent base of radius 8 units and a height of 15 units. What is the unfilled volume inside the cylinder? 320π cubic units 597π cubic units 640π cubic units 725π cubic units

Answer:

The volume of the unfilled volume is  640 \pi cubic units

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Find the volume of a cylinder

we know that

volume of a cylinder  = \pi r^2 h

Where

r is the radius of the cylinder

h is the height of the cylinder

On Substituting the values

volume of a cylinder  = \pi (8) ^2 (15)

volume of a cylinder  = \pi (64) (15)

volume of a cylinder   =  960 \pi cubic units

Step 2: Find the volume of a cone

volume of a cone is = \frac{1}{3} \pi r^2 h

r is the radius

h is the height

we have given with slant height L =  17 units

Applying the Pythagorean Theorem find the value of h

h^2  = l^2 - r^2

h^2  = (17)^2 - (8)^2

h^2  = 289 - 64

h^2 = 225

h = 15 units

Now the volume is

= \frac{1}{3} \pi(8)^2 15

=>\frac{1}{3} \pi (64) 15

=> \frac{960}{3} \pi

=>320 \pi cubic units

Step  3  :Finding  the unfilled volume inside the cylinder

Unfilled volume inside the cylinder   =  volume of the cylinder - volume of the cone

Unfilled volume inside the cylinder   =   960\pi  -  320\pi =  640 \pi cubic units

What is the slope of this graph?
kotykmax [81]

Answer:

½

Step-by-step explanation:

Using two points on the line, (2, 3) and (4, 4), the slope, m, of the graph can be calculated as follows:

Where,

(2, 3) = (x_1, y_1)

(4, 4) = (x_2, y_2)

m = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1} = \frac{4 - 3}{4 - 2}

m = \frac{1}{2}

Slope = ½
