The correct answer is cultural group

Sub-Saharan Africa is called the region that contains the African countries located south of the Sahara desert. Since the 19th century, this territory began to be known with the expression Black Africa by Westerners, describing a region inhabited by individuals of the black race that had not been discovered yet, nor colonized by Europeans. This term fell out of use and was cataloged as pejorative. This region of the globe is considered the cradle of humanity.

Since the end of the ice age, the north and the sub-Saharan region have found a natural and almost insurmountable frontier in the Sahara desert, except for small shortcuts such as the Nile River. The term sub-Saharan finds a synonym in tropical Africa, trying to highlight its ecological diversity, even though the southern part has a totally different climate.
