What is the difference between a ballot initiative and a referendum in Georgia? Between 1911-1913, the Georgia legislature enacted laws granting initiative, referendum, and recall rights to the residents of four cities, including Atlanta (the Initiative & Referendum movement was a force in Georgia politics).

A "ballot initiative" is when citizens get signatures and make the decision to put it on the ballot to be voted on (citizens draft a proposed law). And a "referendum" is a decision for the general assembly to put a bill on the ballot (the legislature refers a piece of legislation to the people to either approve or reject it by vote). These terms refer to processes that allow citizens to vote directly on particular pieces of legislation.

In reference to the quote, why is judicial independence important please Answer in 2 to 3 complete sentences
aalyn [17]

Answer:

Given the quote, the independence of the Judiciary means the ability to carry out their functions without any external interference either from other branches of government or government institutions. The Judiciary is a branch of government saddled with the responsibility of Implementing and interpreting the laws made by the Legislative branch.

Judges are ministers in the temple of justice and must not only ensure justice is done but seen to be done. To achieve this, the judiciary must be guarded against external interference for the benefit of the people.

The Judiciary is the"bedrock" of democracy saddled with the function of dispute resolution between aggrieved parties. Its importance comes to play where the parties are treated fairly by deducing the issues and applying the relevant evidence to arrive at a just conclusion.

It is of utmost importance as it makes sure the Judges uphold the principles of the rule of law without bias but based on the provision of law without any external control from other bodies.
