Muscle store produces cortisol to create that energy and insulin is the hormone that helps to reduce the impact of cortisol. But to be effective insulin requires carbohydrate intake and carbohydrates alone won't help you recover the muscle loss and energy. So, that's why you have to mix them so they work out can be performed and the growth allowed.
