In order to find the solution, you must find a common denominator.

A good common denominator for these 2 fractions is 40 because 5 times 8 is 40 and 8 times 5 is 40.

For 1/5, multiply the 1 by 8 because you multiplied the 5 by 8 and you must do the same thing you did to the denominator to the numerator, so 1 times 8 is 8.

1/5 = 8/40

You do the same thing to 2/8 except multiply by 5.

2 times 5 is 10.

2/8 = 10/40

Now you have the fractions 8/40 and 10/40.

10/40 is greater than 8/40, so 10/40 > 8/40.

10/40 = 2/8

2/8 is greater than 1/5.

Hope this helps. :)

Aiden wrote a riddle: Five less than 1/5 times a number is the same as the sume of the number and 1/3. Find the number.
Brrunno [24]

The number is -6.67

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Let "n" be the number

From given,

\text{ Five less than 1/5 times a number } = \frac{1}{5}n - 5 = \frac{5}{n} - 5

\text{Sum of number and 1/3 } = n + \frac{1}{3} =\frac{3n+1}{3}

Given that,

Five less than 1/5 times a number is the same as the sum of the number and 1/3

Therefore, we get,

\frac{n}{5} - 5 = n + \frac{1}{3}\\\\Simplify\ the\ expression\\\\n - 25 = 5(n + \frac{1}{3})\\\\n - 25 = 5n + \frac{5}{3}\\\\n - 25 = \frac{15n + 5}{3}\\\\3n - 75 = 15n + 5\\\\12n = -80\\\\n = -6.67

Thus the number is -6.67

Help! Clear the fractions
I am Lyosha [343]

Answer:

x = - \frac{27}{20}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

\frac{5}{6} x + 2 = \frac{7}{8}

Multiply through by 24 ( the LCM of 6 and 8 ) to clear the fractions

20x + 48 = 21 ( subtract 48 from both sides )

20x = - 27 ( divide both sides by 20 )

x = - \frac{27}{20}

Circle the volume in cm^3 of a cylinder with the radius 5cm and height 8cm
Phantasy [73]

Answer:

<em>628 </em>cm^{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

Since the formula to find the volume of a cylinder is \pi r^{2}h, we just need to fill things in.

Since the radius is 5 and the height is 8 and we know that pi=3.14, our new equation is:

3.14*5^2*8.

5*5=25. Now we simplify.

3.14 * 25 * 8

78.5 * 8

<em>628 </em>cm^{3}

Hope this helps!! <3 :)
