Two cable ferries start moving towards each other from shores A and B. When the pass each other for the first time the distance

to shore B is 100 meters. Once they reach their destinations and start traveling back at the same time. When they meet for the second time, the distance to shore A is 50 meters. What is the distance between the shores Aand B?

As there is no information about the speed of the ferries, we can infer that they move at the same speed.
Therefore, we can say that they cross each other at the same point both on their way and on their way back.
Since the "meeting point" is on a streight line in between the two shores, 100 meters from shore B and 50 meters from shore A, the distance between shore A and B will be 100 + 50 = 150 meters.

Hence, the distance between shores A and B is 150 meters.

The point (1, –5) is reflected across the y-axis. A coordinate plane. What are its new coordinates?
luda_lava [24]

Answer: Choice C. (-1, -5)

Explanation:

The reflection rule we use is

(x,y) \to (-x, y)

when we want to reflect over the y axis. The x coordinate flips from positive to negative, or vice versa, while the y coordinate stays the same.

Therefore, (1, -5) \to (-1, -5)

Need help with this question! Will attach pic! A satellite is to be put into an elliptical orbit around a moon as shown below.Th
Darina [25.2K]
An equation for the ellipse ( standard form ):
x²/a² + y²/b² = 1
Here is: a - semi-major axis and b - semi-minor axis.
Radius of the moon is 1,000 km and the distance from the surface of the moon to the satellite varies from 953 km to 466 km.
a = 1,000 + 953 = 1,953 km
b = 1,000 + 466 = 1,466 km
Answer:
The equation is x² / 1,953² + y² / 1,466² = 1
or: x²/3,814,209 + y²/2,149,156 = 1
