ylene (HDPE). One of the problems of recycling such materials is separating them. Suppose you have been hired to set up a process for separating large quantities of waste plastic that is a mixture of PETE and HDPE. Describe how you might perform this separation.

The separation can easily be carried out on the basis of the difference in densities of polyehtylene terephthalate (PETE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE). To do this, we may grind the polymers into chips and then begin vibrating the mixture of the plastics. The more dense HDPE chips will settle to the bottom and the less dense PETE chips will remain at the upper portion.
