Your heart has four valves. Normally, these valves open to let blood flow through your heart, and then shut to keep it from flow

ing backward. Sometimes the valves don't work properly, causing some or all of the following disorders. In regurgitation, blood leaks back through the valve in the wrong direction. In valve prolapse, the valves have "floppy" flaps and don't close tightly. It's one of the most common heart valve conditions. Sometimes it causes regurgitation. In stenosis, the valve doesn't open enough and blocks blood flow. Based on your knowledge of the heart, explain how regurgitation, valve prolapse, and stenosis each adversely affects blood flow and the oxygenation of body tissues.

Regurgitation influences the flow of blood by mixing the oxygen-poor blood with the oxygen-rich blood. Due to this, the heart has to pump more to oxygenate the entire body, leading to the rapid, and fluttering heartbeat. The tissues get oxygenated but regurgitation could be fatal, as the heart cannot function overtime forever.

Valve prolapse influences the flow of blood when the flow of blood backs up. This leads to an irregular or racing heartbeat. Even at certain occasions, the blood can flow back to the lungs. However, there is not a huge influence in the oxygenation of the body tissues.

Stenosis makes the ventricles to pump overtime to get enough blood through, and in the process, the ventricles thicken. This functions for a while, however, it will result in heart failure as the heart cannot do it for entire life. The tissues are oxygenated, but it will be an issue due to overtime.

Which of the following is NOT a process that drives the carbon cycle?
stiks02 [169]

"Ammonification" is NOT a process that drives the carbon cycle.

Option: B

Explanation:

The organisms circulate carbon-di-oxide in carbon cycle by going through respiration, decomposition, sedimentation, and photosynthesis process but not ammonification. Basically the actual source of nitrogen is agricultural, when a plant or animal passes or an animal disperses waste.

In the remains, bacteria or fungi turn the organic nitrogen back into ammonium, a cycle called ammonisation or mineralisation. Then the micro-organisms generate metabolically required energy from organic nitrogen oxidation into ammonium. Ammonium is then essential for assimilation and absorption into amino acids or for use in other metabolic applications.
