Perhaps the most concise way to factor is by "completing the square" which is how the quadratic formula is derived...

x^2+6x+8=0  move constant to other side, subtract 8 from both sides

x^2+6x=-8, halve the linear coefficient, square it, then add that to both sides, in this case (6/2)^2=3^2=9

x^2+6x+9=1  now the left side is a perfect square of the form

(x+3)^2=1  take the square root of both sides

x+3=±√1  subtract 3 from both sides

x=-3±√1

x=-3±1

x=-4 and -2

Since the zeros occur when x=-4 and -2 the factors of the equation are:

(x+2)(x+4)

Russ is solving an equation where both sides are linear expressions. He graphs the expressions and finds that they are the same
Paha777 [63]

Answer is ''there are infinitely many intersection points'' .

Let equation of the line 1  be

a_{1}x+b_{1}y=c_{1}\\\text{and equation of line 2 be}\\a_{2}x+b_{2}y=c_{2}

As given they are the same line so Russ should interpret that

\frac{a_{1}}{a_{2}}= \frac{b_{1}}{b_{2}}=\frac{c_{1}}{c_{2}}

So, they are coincident and its a consistent-dependent system .Both of them will have same values of y for same value of x .

Therefore they will have infinitely many solutions and hence intersections.

For example Equation of line 1 be 2x +3y = 5 and equation of line 2 be 4x+6y=10 then

\frac{2}{4}=\frac{3}{6}=\frac{5}{10}=\frac{1}{2}

therefore, these lines are coincident and have infinitely many solutions .

Mr. Rao buus a computer, a printer and a scanner for $2543. The computer costs $1502 more than the printer. The printer costs $1
NeTakaya
1) total $ = 2543
2) x -> printer y-> computer z -> scanner
3) y = x + 1502
4) x = z + 123 -> x - 123 = z
5) 2543 = (x + 1502) + (x - 123) + x
6) 2543 = x + 1502 + x - 123 + x
7) 2543 = 3x + 1379
8) 2543 - 1379 = 3x
9) x = 388$
10) y = x + 1502
11) y = 1890$

computer costs 1890$

Write the event as a set of outcomes. We flip three coins and obtain more tails than heads.
Ket [755]
We start by listing the outcome of flipping two coins. The first table shows the outcomes HH, HT, TH, and TT. These outcomes then become the input combined with the third coins, as shown in the second table.

We have 8 outcomes in total: HHH, HHT, HHT, TTH, HHT, HTT, TTH, and TTT

The probability that we obtain more tails than heads is 4/8
