There was a man named Joseph McCarthy was claimed that he had a list of all the communists in the United States government. He did not however actually have a list. but was actually just pulling a publicity stunt. This is similar to the Salem Witch Trials because like them, people were claiming that others were witches, when in reality they were just normal people.
