A book of mass 5 kg rests on a plank. You tilt one end of the plank and slowly increase the angle of the tilt. The coefficient o

f static friction between the book and the plank is 0.50. What is the maximum angle of tilt for which the book will remain stationary and not slide down the plank?

Answer:

The maximum angle of tilt is 26.56°.

Explanation:

Given that,

Mass of book = 5 kg

Coefficient of static friction = 0.50

The normal force of plank on book

F_{n}=mg\cos\theta

The friction force holding book against moving

f_{\mu}=\mu F_{n}....(I)

The force induced by gravity is

F_{g}=mg\sin\theta....(II)

We need to calculate the angle

Now, both forces are equal

f_{\mu}=F_{g}

\mu\ mg\cos\theta=mg\sin\theta

Put the value into the formula

0.50\times5\times9.8\cos\theta=5\times9.8\sin\theta

\tan\theta=\dfrac{0.50\times5\times9.8}{5\times9.8}

\theta=\tan^{-1}{0.5}

\theta=26.56^{\circ}

Hence, The maximum angle of tilt is 26.56°.

Answer: The maximum angle of tilt is 26.57°

Explanation:

mass of book = 5 kg

weight = mass × acceleration due to gravity

wgt of book = 5 × 9.8 = 49 N

coefficient of static friction = Fs = 0.50

let maximum angle of tilt = A

force parallel to the plank = Fp

force perpendicular to the plank = Fn

Fp = 49 × sin A

Fn = 49 × cos A

Fs = u × Fn = 0.5 × 49 × cos A

Fp - Fs = m × a

49 × sin A - 0.5 × 49 × cos A = m × 0 = 0

49 × sin A = 0.5 × 49 × cos A

(divide both sides by 49)

sin A = 0.5 × cos A

(divide both sides by cos A)

sin A/cos A = 0.5

NOTE: sin A/cos A = tan A

replace sin A/cos A with tan A

∴ tan A = 0.5

A =\tan^{-1}{0.5}

A = 26.565°

(note that to get A, take the arctan of 0.5, where arctan is tan raised to the power of -1)

The maximum angle of tilt is 26.57°.

How is having a security system for your home a risk
Iteru [2.4K]
<h2>The security system will alert authorities and deter  criminals, protecting your valuables and property. </h2><h2>The security system will give you peace of mind</h2>

Explanation:

Option 1: We cannot say that every visitor will be a thief or criminal. So a "home security system" is to stay alert from danger

Option 2: Burglars and home security system is to alert authorities and to protect our valuables. But home security system in addition can detect flood, fire, etc.

Option 3: Yes that's true. We feel like there is someone to protect us and our valuables. So it provides peace of mind.

Option 4: Why should we keep the doors unlocked? It will tempt for crime to happen. So this choice is invalid.

Murrr4er [49]

Answer:

$20 loss

Explanation:

Karen Smith bought a coca-cola stock for $475 in March 31, 20X1

She received a non taxable distribution of $155 on November 15, 20X1

The first step is to calculate the adjusted basis

= $475-$155

= $320

Karen sold the stock for $300 on December 22, 20X1

Therefore, her gain or loss on the sale can be calculated as follows

= $300-$320

= $20 loss

Hence Karen has a loss of $20 on the sale

MACRS 3 year depreciation schedule

33.33% x $2,300,000 = $766,590

44.45% x $2,300,000 = $1,022,350

14.81% x $2,300,000 = $340,630

carrying value at end of year 3 = $170,430

net after tax cash flow from salvage value = $210,000 - [($210,000 - $170,430) x 22%] = $201,294.60

cash flows:

year 0 = -$2,300,000 - $270,000 = -$2,570,000

year 1 = [($1,720,000 - $628,000 - $766,590) x 0.78] + $766,590 = $1,020,410

year 2 = [($1,720,000 - $628,000 - $1,022,350) x 0.78] + $1,022,350 = $1,076,677

year 3 = [($1,720,000 - $628,000 - $340,630) x 0.78] + $340,630 + $201,294.60 + $270,000 = $1,397,993
