Meroë is an ancient city located by the Nile river in present Sudan. This city was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Kush. This was one of the largest and most advanced kingdoms south of the Sahara. It also interacted with many other Nile Valley states.

Kush was located in the region known as Nubia. This is the area that is found between Aswan in southern Egypt and Khartoum in central Sudan. Nubia greatly benefitted from the resources that were found in Meroë. Meroë provided Nubia with wood and iron. These were used as materials to make tools for farming. The wood was also used as a heat source. Finally, these resources were also commonly used to make weapons.
