7. Identify chemical products commonly used for intermediate and low-level surface disinfection, and explain the
madreJ [45]

Answer:

Disinfection is a process in which bacteria, cysts, other microorganisms etc. are killed or inactivated by various chemicals.

Explanation:

Low-level clean -- used to disinfect items that are not critical that come into contact with skin. This includes: patient-care devices that would be used on more than one patient on a work day, hard surfaces, beds, blood pressure device, etc. For this type of cleaning, Ammonium compounds are used. For waiting rooms, exam rooms, patients bed... It is able to kill amoebas, molds, microbes, most of the viruses, fungi...

In low-level cleaning, Ethyl or isopropyl alcohol (70-90%) is used.

It's also called rubbing alcohol. It can be found in many households and hospitals.

Advantage: it removes bad bugs, ticks, kills fruit flies, removes stains...

Disadvantage: it can cause nausea, vomiting, nose and throat irritations, even difficulties with breathing.

Intermediate level clean -- disinfectants that belong to this type of cleaning are usually used to clean some of the critical items that can potentially be on a person. Like clothing, workwear or anything that can get in touch with bacteria or blood borne pathogens. For this type of cleaning, alcohol can be used. Bleach, as it is often used to disinfect clothing in healthcare facilities. A blend of bleach and hydrogen peroxide, they attack more complex bacteria than bleach alone.

To use this type of disinfection, a person must use equipment such as gloves, long-sleeved clothes, googles etc.

Those two are very good methods, but are not 100 % effective.Disinfection usually kills around 99% of any harmful bacteria, but sterilization generally kills 100%. The process of disinfecting a surface intends to kill all the microorganisms that produce diseases, which still remain on the surface. Disinfection is a good method of cleaning, but it can't be mistaken for sterilization. It is a process in which all forms of life are totally destroyed.

Phenolic germicidal detergent solution -- it is a detergent that's based on iodophor and it has a great impact in destroying bacteria and viruses. It is used for floors, counter tops, walls etc.

Bleach and bleach based products, hydrogen peroxide.

Advantages: it removes bacteria, stains, kills germs...

Disadvantages: it is very corrosive, which means it can leave skin very irritated. If it's mixed with other cleaning products, it will react and cause dangerous gases -- like chlorine and ammonia.
