The pea aphid, a type of insect, contains light-capturing pigments in its exoskeleton. Pea aphids gained the ability to synthesi

ze these pigments from genes transferred from fungi. While pea aphids do not have chloroplasts or fix carbon, researchers have found that pea aphids with more pigments have higher levels of ATP than those with fewer pigments. Pea aphids also have been shown to increase production of ATP when exposed to sunlight. Based on this information, is the pea aphid a true autotroph?

Answer:

Based on the information given we can not say pea aphid as an autotroph. Because pea aphid ability to produce ATP in the presence of sun is due to the light-capturing pigment that it gains from the genes transferred from fungi.

As pea aphid do not have any chloroplast and it cannot fix carbon so it is not a true autotroph. We can say it false autotroph because it can produce ATP in the presence of sunlight and can show increased production of ATP at the higher level of pigment.

Answer:

The correct answer would be "no, we can not consider pea aphid as a true autotroph".

The true autotrophs are those which can manufacture their food (organic compounds) from simple elements like water and carbon dioxide in the presence of sunlight.

As pea aphid is unable to fix carbon that means it is still dependent on other organisms for its nutrition.

Thus, it can not be considered as autotrophs.

What results if water is heated and and highly pressured underground
Nadusha1986 [10]

The answer is; geysers

Due to the water underground being heated from geological reason such as heat from magma chambers, the water heats up and expands. The pressure of the rock above the water causes it to reach very high pressures. The water finds cracks and fissures in the rocks above until it reached the surface. The pressure releases and the water eject from the ground into a hot fountain.

The cytochrome c in both horses and pigeons differs from the human protein at 12 locations. Based on this data, you might infer
yuradex [85]

Answer:

Cytochrome c is an enzyme found in bacteria, fungi, plants and animals. Here it is given that the human amino acid sequence for cytochrome c differs at 12 locations from the sequence in horses and pigeons. This information might be useful for inferring in preliminary stages that horses and pigeons are closely related to each other since they both show similar amount of difference from humans.

However, this hypothesis is being made with respect to the the comparison between "humans and horses" and "humans and pigeons". To further test this hypothesis pigeons and horses should be directly compared to each other without the use of a third species like humans. Hence, the sequence for cytochrome c in horse and pigeon should be compared with each other rather than comparing to humans.

What modern day practice helps prevent an inadequate production of thyroid hormones?
Mama L [17]

Iodized salts helps to prevent an inadequate production of thyroid hormones .

What is iodized salts ?

Iodized salt is a table salt . it is a mixture of very little amount of sodium iodide and potassium iodide .

It helps to prevent iodine deficiency .

It is a micronutrient and dietary mineral that is naturally present in the food supply .and also it is a heavy element .generally found near sea coasts .

Iodine deficiency disease includes hypothyroidism .

What is hypothyroidism ?

It occurs due to less secretion of thyroid hormone caused by iodine deficiency .it causes stunted growth . it shows low rate of metabolism .

Hypothyroidism includes diseases like myxoedema or gull's disease , cretinism .

Inadequate supply of iodine in diet causes enlargement of the gland known as simple goitre.

Thyroid hormones :

It is secreted by endocrine glands known as thyroid gland . it includes two types of hormones known as thyroxine and calcitonin .

Thyroxine is an iodine containing hormone known as tetra-iodothyroxine(80%) and tri-iodothyroxine (20%).

calcitonin is secreted from thyroid gland and is polypeptide hormone .
