Given:

Composite figure made of cylinder and two spheres.

To find:

The volume of the composite solid.

Solution:

Radius = 2 in

The value of π = 3.14

<u>Volume of sphere:</u>

$V=\frac{4}{3} \pi r^3

$V=\frac{4}{3} \times 3.14 \times 2^3

$V=\frac{4}{3} \times 3.14 \times 8

V=33.49

Volume of a sphere is 33.49 in³

Volume of two spheres = 2 × 33.49 = 66.98 in³

Radius of cylinder = 2 in

Height of cylinder = 8 - 2 - 2 = 4 in

<u>Volume of cylinder:</u>

$V=\pi r^2 h

V = 3.14 × 2² × 4

V = 50.24

Volume of cylinder = 50.24 in³

Volume of composite solid = Volume of two spheres + Volume of cylinder

                                             = 66.98 in³ + 50.24 in³

                                             = 117.2 in³

The volume of the composite solid is 117.2 in³.

The sum of four times a number and five times another number is -28. The sum of nine times the first number and two times the se
dedylja [7]

Answer:

  -8

Step-by-step explanation:

If we let x and y represent the first and second numbers, respectively, we can write the problem statement as the equations ...

  • 4x +5y = -28
  • 9x +2y = 11

We can multiply the first equation by -9 and add 4 times the second equation to get an equation in y alone:

  -9(4x +5y) +4(9x +2y) = -9(-28) +4(11)

  -37y = 296 . . . . . simplify

  296/-37 = y = -8 . . . . . divide by the coefficient of y

The second number is -8.

How to set the answer up
Korolek [52]

Let s and g represents the numbers of suits and gowns produced.

The number of zippers used is 2s+g.

The number of buttons used is 5s+8g.

In order to use all of the available zippers and buttons, we must have ...

  • 2s + g = 171
  • 5s + 8g = 576

Cramer's rule tells you the solution to the system

  • ax +by = c
  • dx +ey = f

Is given by

  • x = (bf-ey)/(bd-ea)
  • y = (cd-fa)/(bd-ea)

Using this rule on the equations for zippers and buttons, we have

... s = (1·576 -8·171)/(1·5 -8·2) = -792/-11 = 72

... g = (171·5 -2·576)/-11 = -297/-11 = 27

72 suits and 27 gowns can be made from available zippers and buttons.
