The correct answer is D) The regions had different geographic features.

Life in the Chesapeake region was very different from life in New England for early settlers in that the regions had different geographic features.

The Chesapeake region was comprised of the Virginia and Maryland colonies. The soil in this region was fertile and good to grow cash crops. Indeed, in Jamestown, Virginia, John Rolfe started to grow tobacco with a lot of success. Tobacco became the king of crops in the colony of Virginia and was exported to Europe. Instead, the soil in the Massachusetts colonies was not as fertile as the middle colonies. It was a rocky soil that was not so good for farming. And the weather conditions were colder many months of the year. That is why people in New England were shipbuilders and fishermen.
