The loss of 1,000 that is realized is not allowable because it is bought withing 30 days.

The basis can then be estimated as follows:

b. Could Tyneka have obtained different tax consequences in (a) if she had sold the 1,000 shares on December 27, 2016, and purchased the 1,000 shares on January 5, 2017?

There would not have been any different tax implications.
