The correct answer is A.

The “Pullman attack” was an attack in the United States throughout the country. It began on May 11, 1894 and ended on July 20 of the same year.

The strike began in Pullman on May 11, where more than 4,000 workers from the Pullman Company began the strike in response to the reduction in wages. Up to this point the workers had not formed a union. For this reason, Debs took the organizers of the ARU (American Railway Union) to the factory and tried to negotiate with the company. He did not accept any reason for negotiation for which ARU called a strike and began a boycott against the trains that transported the cars of the aforementioned factory.

The federal government tried to stop them with a court order they obtained, but the strike did not stop. In response to this, President Grover Cleveland ordered the Army to prevent the strikers from obstructing the trains, and later it was disbanded.

Debs was summoned to court for contempt. In the case In re Debs, it was discussed whether the federal government had the power to grant the court order that dealt with both interstate commerce and the interior of the state and the dispatch of the railroads. It was concluded that the government of the United States has the right to regulate interstate commerce and guarantee the operations of the Postal Service, in addition to guaranteeing the public welfare.

The government had the authority to end labor strikes.

Further Explanation:

In Re Debs was a Labor Case that went to the Supreme Court of the United States in the year 1895. Eugene V. Debs, who was the president of the American rail Union and was also involved in Pullman Strike in which he challenged the federal government's directive which ordered strikers to get back to the work and not doing so will lead to firing from work. This directive was issued by the government because of increasing violent nature related to strike by the workers but Re Debs still declined to accept governmental offers and he was subjected to contempt of court and he appealed to this decision in the higher courts.

The main question, in this case, was that should government has the right to issue any policy or directive in the labor strikes as the government dealt both with Interstate as well as Intrastate commerce. Supreme Court gave a unanimous decision in the count of 9-0 and in its decision, it upheld the government's use of directive against strikes related to labor.

Upon his election as the President of the United States of America in 1800, Thomas Jefferson selected Albert Gallatin as the Secretary of the Treasury.

he Jefferson administration had two main objectives in 1801:

1) Reduce the national debt

2) Reduce direct taxes

In 1801, the United States was more than $80 million in national debt.

The Jefferson administration took advantage of two sources to reduce national debt: capital gained through the sale of public land, and revenue brought in through custom duties (import taxes).
