The reason it is used as a date rape drug is because it causes the victim to become very groggy (making it easy for the attacker to lead the victim away) and will most likely cause the victim to lose consciousness. Upon waking up the next day, the victim finds it very hard to remember what happened or any details of the attack or attacker.
