Answer:

Robert Merton explained that what is functional for people in one category of a society's population <u>may not be functional for people in another category.</u>

Explanation:

Robert Merton was a Sociologist in the United States. He followed the works of Emile Durkheim and developed the theory known as the STRAIN THEORY. The Strain theory posits that societal pressure is placed on individual members of the society to achieve social standard/view of "success" without having the means to attain such success. For instance, society believes one is successful when one has monetary success and places pressure on individuals to achieve such monetary success despite not having the means to achieve it.

The Strain theory thus lies in the "pressure" caused by the society to achieve what they deem to be a success.

Robert Merton also made efforts to create a difference between Manifest function and Latent function to distinguish between social behaviors.

According to him, Latent function involves functions that cannot be seen by people in a social setting while Manifest function involves social patterns that can be seen by individuals in a society.

masya89 [10]

Answer:

From 1846 to 1848, the United States of America and Mexico fought the Mexican-American War. There were many causes of the war, but the biggest reasons were Mexico's lingering resentment over the loss of Texas and the Americans' desire for Mexico's western lands, such as California and New Mexico.

Although the diseases transferred by Columbian Exchange resulted in A) a contraction of native populations in Asia, the primary
kifflom [539]

The answer is D) The depopulation of the Americas, the overall effect was an increased population worldwide

When the Taino gathered on the shores of San Salvador Island to welcome a small party of foreign sailors on 12 October 1492, they had little idea what lay in store. They laid down their weapons willingly and brought the foreign sailors—Christopher Columbus and his crewmen—tokens of friendship: parrots, bits of cotton thread, and other presents. Columbus later wrote that the Taino “remained so much our friends that it was a marvel.”

A year later, Columbus built his first town on the nearby island of Hispaniola, where the Taino numbered at least 60,000 and possibly as many as 8 million, according to some estimates. But by 1548, the Taino population there had plummeted to less than 500. Lacking immunity to Old World pathogens carried by the Spanish, Hispaniola’s indigenous inhabitants fell victim to terrible plagues of smallpox, influenza, and other viruses.

The population of African and Eurasian peoples in the Americas grew steadily, while the indigenous population plummeted. Eurasian diseases such as influenza, bubonic plague and pneumonic plagues, yellow fever, smallpox, and malaria devastated the Native Americans, who did not have immunity to them. Conflict and outright warfare with Western European newcomers and other American tribes further reduced populations and disrupted traditional societies. The extent and causes of the decline have long been a subject of academic debate, along with its characterization as a genocide.[2]

Populations in other parts like in Europe benefited of the products imported by Europeans like corn, potatoes, etc.

What do the myth Narcissus and Pandora's Box tell us about how the gods perceived their gods?
Bond [772]
You would think that they didn't care about their gods and thought them to be no higher than them. Narcissus only loved himself. He looked in the water so he can see himself. In doing so he fell in. He only cared for himself. Pandora was given the box by Zeus. Zeus told her not to open it. She slightly didn't believe him and was curious as to what was inside. This lead to her releasing all the bad in the world.
