This ethnic group is formed by the descendants of the pre-Arab inhabitants of North Africa and lived across in what today is Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Mali, Niger and Mauretania. The languages spoken in this region belong to the Afro-Asiatic family. They are called this way because when the Arabs invaded Spain they took them for their army and because they did not speak any Latin or Greek they were barbarian.
