Was annexing Hawaii in agreement with American ideals about freedom?

History

Annexing Hawaii was in direct disagreement with American ideals about freedom, in fact it went against our own laws. American businessmen, not Hawaiian citizens or native Hawaiians, overthrew the government of this foreign nation in the hopes of gain a even bigger advantage for their corporate greed. The American ideals about freedom rely on the belief that everyone gets a choice to live the life they want. By annexing this foreign nation without war, negotiation, or purchase the annexation  was a forceful unconsented takeover. A takeover which very much emulated the very imperialism the U.S. had strived to separate from.

What was uncle tom cabin and what effect did it have on the nation?
Paladinen [302]
Uncle Tom's Cabin was a novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe about slavery in the south. When people read it, they started to realize and be informed about what slavery was like, so more people started being opposed to slavery (because before this, people in the north tended to not care) and more people became abolitionists.
