When the House and Senate pass different versions of a bill, a Conference Committee can be convened, whose main role is to be a temporary panel in which representatives of House and Senate aim to work together to reconcile their difference over a bill, in order to reach a compromise.

If a compromise is reached, the "managers" or conferees prepare a conference report and then they send it to each chamber. Once the conference report is approved by the chambers, the bill is sent to the President for signature and becomes a law.
