Here is why.  You can find the area of the rectangle by multiplying the length by the width.  This would be 15 x 5 = 75 square inches.  The area of the whole circle that is created when you put both halves together would be found by multiplying 3.14 x 2.5 in (the radius) x 2.5 in.  This answer is about 20 square inches.  The combined area is approximately 95 square inches.
