Sonar uses sound waves in order to detect and locate objects in the water. The speed and detectable range of sound waves are impacted by the medium they are travelling through. Ocean water, the medium that sonar travels through, includes characteristics such as temperature, density, and salinity. These elements affect the nature of the medium, and thus affect the sound waves used for sonar detection.

Which of the following is NOT a way in which an enzyme can speed up the reaction that it catalyzes?
olga nikolaevna [1]
The answer is B.

It doesn’t really make sense and isn’t something an enzyme does. Enzymes help chemical reactions occur. They don’t alter the intrinsic energy of a particular substrate.

Explain why animals have specialized excretory organs but plants do not. ...?
Airida [17]
They consume food and they have much higher metabolism. That means that more waste products are produced. Plants can use much of the waste produced and it is in fact raw material. Animals don't normally produce their own chemicals from scratch like plants normally do so they can't just recycle the waste. They need to remove it. About the only waste plants need to get rid of is excess oxygen produced during the day. That is actually three reasons but recycling is related to plants not consuming but making their own chemicals from scratch. In a way it pretty much comes down to one main reason.

What substance, produced by virus-infected cells, diffuses to neighboring cells to help them fight a viral infection
Ksenya-84 [330]

Interferons:

The body releases glycoproteins as the defensive response to virus are called interferons.

The interferons initiate the series of molecular changes and elicit the immune cells to fight the pathogens or foreign particles. These interferons affect the growth of cells and inflammation. Interferons are the cytokines and are responsible for intercellular signalling. The interferons does not directly affect the multiplication of virus instead, it does not let other cells allow virus to use its machinery and replicate. Interferons are of three types: alpha, beta and gamma. The gamma interferon is majorly responsible for the immune response.
