The US were concerned another economic depression similar to after World War I would occur again but would send them to Communism at this point. The Marshall Plan provided funding to struggling European countries to prevent influence from the USSR.

2. She was the first female advisor to President Roosevelt.

Bethune was a member of Roosevelt's Black Cabinet. She was given access to the White House through her friendship with Eleanor Roosevelt. She was an adviser on civil rights and black rights. She brought together black leaders to create recommendations for the Roosevelt presidency.
