What is the biological significance of genetic diversity between populations? What is the biological significance of genetic div

ersity between populations? Genes for traits conferring an advantage to local conditions make microevolution possible. The population that is most fit would survive by competitive exclusion. Diseases and parasites are not spread between separated populations. Genetic diversity allows for species stability by preventing speciation.

Explanation:

A) Genes for traits conferring an advantage to local conditions make microevolution possible.

For example, Galapagos finches show variation in beak sizes and shapes related to their niches and available food source; the finches developed adaptations to their environment. Their specialized beaks allow them to adequately exploit the available resources, by utilizing the more abundant food source.

Further Explanation:

All the genetic information within the eukaryotic cell is stored within the nucleus as helical DNA. This DNA is tightly wound around histones as chromosomes. To produce daughter cells during cell division, the chromosomes (total number of chromosomes (2n)) are copied before the cell splits into two daughter cells. This process is known as mitosis, and occurs in cell division and growth processes. Two new nuclei are formed, along with identical cells. These are the same as the parent cell and the chromosome number (2n) is maintained.

Conversely in meiosis, the number of chromosomes (2n) is halved through meiotic divisions, producing 4 (n) germ cells (sperm or eggs), each containing half the number of chromosomes as its parent cell. Crossing over, independent assortment, and random fertilization ensure genetic variation.

This variation refers to the genetic characteristics present within a species; they form new traits called alleles, which may confer adaptations that increase the fitness of a species, along with ensuring survival by conferring an advantage.

Additionally, natural selection, mutation, genetic drift and gene flow lead to microevolution; over time, this is seen as changes to allelic frequencies within a population

Why do plant need food
erma4kov [3.2K]

Answer:

They need food in order to gain the initial energy they need.

Explanation:

Plants unlike humans don't get food by primary sources (aka, hunting). instead they retrieve their food from the suns rays. Without the suns rays they are able to convert this energy into glucose for themselves, and will essentially die because they do not have that source of food to give them the energy they need to survive.

Two genes (R or r) and (D or d), each with a dominant and recessive allele, are
Andrej [43]

Answer:

B. DR, Dr, Rd, dr

Explanation:

This question involves two genes. Alleles D and R are dominant over alleles d and r. These two genes obey the law of independent assortment as proposed by Gregor Mendel.

Based on the question, a genotype RrDd will produce the following combination of gametes following the process of meiosis:

DR, Dr, dR, dr

What is a living organism? Give a few examples.
Ray Of Light [21]

A living organism is a cell that is similar to the humanoid ones. This excludes cells such as plant cells. A living organism also had to be able o make proteins for itself, such as humans do. A human would be a living organism. An animal would be a living organism.
