The separate-but-equal doctrine affected African American education, employment, and public activities.

The separate-but-equal was a doctrine that was part of the U.S constitution. According to it, segregation did NOT violate the Fourteenth Amendment of the constitution since this doctrine still made sure that all facilities, services, transportation, medical care, education, employment and housing were provided to both races. However, we know that during the segregation era, the black population were actually provided with far inferior building, instructional materials and services if compared to the ones provided to the white people.
