Imagine you are a student trying to decode the genetic code. An artificial mRNA molecule consisting of poly-CA (5ʹ... CACACACACA

CACAC..3ʹ) yields a polypeptide consisting solely of histidines and threonine, and another artificial mRNA consisting of poly-CAA (5ʹ...CAACAACAACAACAA...3ʹ) yields three different polypeptides: polythreonine, polyglutamine, and polyasparagine. On the basis of this information, which codons can you assign to which amino acids?

Answer:

ACA: Threonine

CAC: Histidine

Explanation:

To answer this question we need to remember that the ribosome reads every three bases or 'codon' in order to assign the right tRNA carrying the amino acid.

In the first artificial mRNA we see two patterns of three letter:

CAC and ACA.

In the second artificial mRNA we are able to identify three different patterns:

CAA

AAC

ACA

And they repeat, so we end with three different polypeptides: polythreonine, polyglutamine and polyasparagine. This will depend on the initial letter the ribosome starts reading.

The only amino acid that repeats in both artificial mRNAs is Threonine, and we see its pattern ACA also repeated.

So, we could assign this codon (ACA) to threonine.

We can then assume that the pattern CAC codifies for histidine since we only get this two polypeptides in the first mRNA.

Lastly with the information provided we cannot determine the codons AAC and CAA for glutamine or asparagine. We would need further experiments.

What is one reason why the classification of protists in one kingdom is difficult?
Aleksandr-060686 [28]

B. Protists more closely resemble members of other eukaryotic kingdoms than they do other protists.

Explanation:

It is difficult for scientists to classify protists into one kingdom because they closely resemble member of other eukaryotic kingdoms than they do other protists.

The protists have a wide variations among themselves that makes them very difficult to classify.

 • Protists have a wide-range of diversity within them and they flaunt every rule used to classify them.
 • Protists have also shown characteristics of different kingdoms between them.

____ [38]

Answer:

1: Chemical Energy

2: Kinetic Energy

3: Electrical Energy

4: Mechanical Energy

Explanation:

1: The energy held in food is called chemical energy. It is a form of potential energy held within chemical bonds between atoms.

2: When flowing water is captured and turned into electricity, it is called hydroelectric power or hydropower. There are several types of hydroelectric facilities; they are all powered by the kinetic energy of flowing water as it moves downstream.

3: The power for lights and stuff is Electrical Energy, ofc :]

4: The chemical energy in the food gets changed into the mechanical energy of moving muscles.
