The cells of epithelial tissues are so closely packed to one another that there is hardly space in their extracellular matrix for materials. However, on the contrary, connective tissues are made up of cells that have room for large quantities of extracellular matrix. Hence, the cells that make up connective tissues are dispersed into matrix.
